We manually fill and clear our grid representation for each layout / compute preferred logical width phase. As there are several places and 2 varaibles to clear it may make sense to have some RAII pattern to handle the cleaning.
As raised in the other, I think it may be an overkill now but if the code changes we should definitely consider it.
